WHAT MAKES A GOOD ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION?
An electrical installation comprises all the fixed electrical equipment that is supplied through the electricity meter. It includes the cables that are usually hidden in the walls and ceilings, accessories (such as sockets, switches and light fittings), and the consumer unit (fusebox) that contains all the fuses, circuit-breakers and, preferably residual current devices (RCDs)*.
There are many factors that contribute to a good electrical installation such as:
Ensuring there are enough sockets for electrical appliances, to minimise the use of multiway socket adapters and trailing leads
Covers are in place to prevent fingers coming into contact with live parts (broken or damaged switches should be replaced without delay)
A Residual Current Device (RCD) protection is installed to provide additional protection against electric shock
Satisfactory earthing arrangements are in place to ensure that a fuse or circuit breaker can quickly clear an electrical fault before it causes an electric shock or fire
Satisfactory protective bonding arrangements are in place where required (so any electric shock risk is minimised until a fault is cleared)
Sufficient circuits are provided to avoid danger and minimise inconvenience in the event of a fault
Cables are correctly selected and installed in relation to the fuse or circuit breaker protecting the circuit
*An RCD (residual current device) is a life-saving device which is designed to prevent you from getting a fatal electric shock if you touch something live, such as a bare wire. It provides a level of protection that ordinary fuses or circuit breakers cannot provide.

16-year-old Grange Heating & Plumbing Apprentice Caitlin Barnett could drive a digger aged 8, played football against West Ham aged 12 and can make good a brick wall in the blink of an eye!
Local lass Caitlin played for Leominster Minors Under 12s and was lucky enough to play against West Ham FC at Birmingham Futsall Arena, but her love of National Autograss racing won over football when Caitlin made a choice between the two sports. At just 12 years old, A West Ham football talent scout asked Catlin if she would try out for the team, but Caitlin preferred to pursue a sport where the whole family could be together. Along with her 2 sisters, the Barnett family are all keen NASA Autograss racers, currently hoping to race a Grange Heating & Plumbing sponsored Mini pickup in adult classes 16-75 years. The family have friends all over the UK and Ireland from their love of this sport.Caitlin, a former student at Earl Mortimer College, Leominster is now studying for her Level 2 Year 1 in Plumbing part time at Hereford & Ludlow College. Grange Heating and Plumbing is very proud to have Caitlin on board as a Plumbing Apprentice since September 2020.

An example of LED external lighting upgrade by Grange Elextrical at Kington Medical Centre, removing existing halogen fittings and replacing them with equivalent LED fittings. Thank goodness our apprentice isnât afraid of heights!
Why update to LED?
LED bulbs are as bright as halogen. Not only that, but an LED bulb will produce the same amount of light as a halogen bulb while using 85% less power, so you can replace a 50 Watt halogen bulb with a 7.5 Watt LED
Led Light installation at Kington
LED bulbs can use as much as 80% percent less energy than halogen bulbs. LED bulbs are more expensive, but make up their cost over time by saving energy and preventing frequent lamp replacements. LED bulbs are generally shatterproof.
LED stands for âlight-emitting diodeâ. They feature a semiconductor compound, which converts electrical energy into light. … But it’s not just electricity that LEDs save when compared with other lighting technologies; they also drastically reduce waste because the bulbs rarely have to be replaced making them a more eco friendly option for consideration.

Grange Electrical carrying out complete new commercial kitchen electrical installation. Providing single phase and three phase power distribution to be completed on time and within budget for this local business looking to get back to the new “normal” of the pandemic. We helped this business change quickly to accommodate new COVID19 rules for social distancing early on in the pandemic – transferring cafeteria to the outside of the building for the summer months. The cafeteria has now been rearranged to accomodate social distancing and customers are able to eat and drink comfortbly in the warm as the weather changes. An overnight working pattern at the customer’s business was necessary to complete works with the minimum of business disruption to our customers at a vital time in getting their business back on track. Grange were happy to oblige in this.
Itâs all well and good to splash around under the sun, but when night falls the swimming pool calls for a little ambience and grown-up allure. A swimming pool lighting installation is preferable as well-lit pool not only lends ambience to your luxurious installation, but also provides a necessary degree of safety. No more fumbling along the backyard path at night, or worrying about your guests after sundown; with expertly placed lighting your swimming pool can radiate the kind of luxurious elegance that doubles as a must-have necessity.
